Walking into the Sun
The idea of a styled shoot came up when we were chatting with Kelvin, Aloysius and Marklin of LightedPixels and LightedPixelsPixies. Being long-time partners in the industry, we were very familiar with one another’s working style and the discussion came about smoothly. The concept was simple – we wanted to do a photoshoot in Singapore that looked like it was shot overseas. After much discussion, we felt that it was more ideal to feature a real life couple in the shoot so that it is more relatable to couples who are getting married. So we decided to contact one of our couples, Salene and Jay, whom agreed to help us (thank you! J) and scheduled a fitting session with them to fit the gowns and suits.
Salene is fun and bubbly and is always smiling and laughing – so the dresses we chose for her emulates her character. There were 3 dresses – a simple and sweet ivory ball gown with a lace train, a sheer mermaid dress with a low-back design and dramatic train scattered with lace applique, and a champagne evening gown embellished with iridescent embroidered lace and sequins. Jay is easy-going and had a cool vibe about him, so we selected a blue suit and a textured silver and black bowtie (finely handcrafted by Helan of Gioielli Accessories) to match his personality.
Next, we had to find a makeup artist to collaborate with. We contact another one of our partners, Autelier Makeup and scheduled a meeting with Sarah, one of the makeup artists of the big team. Sarah came by to our studio and we got round to discussing the look that we wanted for the couple. It was important that the hair and makeup suited the bride and groom and complements the gowns and suit. During the discussion, Sarah explained to us that certain hairstyles are only achievable for certain hair types and not just any hairstyle can be done (*information for the brides!) as we previously thought. We finally settled on 3 looks for the bride — a low bun, an updo and a fishtail braid and a simple bun for the groom as he had long hair.
After the preparations of the gowns and suits were completed, Lightedpixels took over from there. Kelvin scheduled the shoot to be in the morning so as to capture the couple in the best lighting. Here are some shots from the styled shoot:
So thankful for the hard work and cooperation of everyone J Till the next styled shoot!
